What is Membrane Filtration ?

Membrane filtration is the separation of components of a fluid by polymeric or inorganic membranes. The type of components removed depends on the pore size and the chemical characteristics of the membrane. Membrane filtration can operate in a range of modes:

  • Cross flow or normal flow
  • Pressurised or suction mode
  • Outside-in or Inside-out mode

    Microfiltration

    Ultrafiltration

Reject particles (including bacteria, parasites and Giardia cysts) based on pore size. Range from 2 - 0.003 µm.

    Nanofiltration Reverse

    Osmosis

Separate out small molecular weight particles and ions in range 1-60 Å (0.0001-0.006µm ) on size and chemical properties
